Nutrition Workshops

Heartland Child Nutrition was the first-ever winner of the United States Department of Agriculture's Mountain Plains Region Best Practices Award for Training and Developmental Activities for family child care providers.

Each spring Heartland Child Nutrition offers a free 2-hour workshop in numerous sites throughout North Dakota. In the meantime, if you are in need of continuing education credits, Heartland Child Nutrition offers Learn-At-Home Courses that are worth one hour of training. Up to two hours of self-study training is allowed to be credited by North Dakota Child Care Services per license year. The courses are only available to those enrolled in the CACFP through Heartland Child Nutrition. Contact Heartland to be sent a course.

  • Kinder-Gardens: Gardening With Preschoolers
  • Munching On Math: Teaching Math Concepts At Snack Time
  • Understanding Special Dietary Needs: Learn about Diabetes, Food Allergies and More
  • Is The Food In My Kitchen Safe? Proper Food Handling Is Important
  • It's A Small World: Introducing Cultural Foods an Activities to Children
  • Fun With Fitness: Teaching Children the Connection Between Energy In/Energy Out with Fun Age-Appropriate Fitness
  • Beans Count: A How-To For Planning Menus and Cooking Dry Beans For CACFP meals
  • Listen To The Baby: An Infant Feeding Guide In Question and Answer Format
  • Building A Breakfast: Current Research About the Affect of Breakfast on Children, Along with Tips on Choosing Breakfast Foods
  • Cooking With Kids: Guidance In Having Kids Help and Learn With Kitchen Activities
  • Pass the Milk, Yogurt, and Cheese....Please: Learn about dairy foods such as what is "real" cheese, if chocolate milk is a good idea for kids, or if the cultures added to some yogurts will improve your health.
